看了诸位讨论过的宿命论等,我个人认为似乎哈代更想强调的是神秘主义和先验论的东西,并且对道德提出了质疑,什末是真正的道德,我们是否应该不假思索的就遵循既有的道德准则。我想他的结论更倾向自然胜过一切人为强加的道德准则的,后者并不是健康的,真正健康的是所有自然的东西,美景甚至人性。比如这一段:‘a wet day was the expression of irremediable grief at her weakness in the mind of some vague ethical being whom she could no comprehend as any other. But this encompassment of her own characterization, based on shreds of convention, peopled by phantoms and voices antipathetic to her, was a sorry and mistaken creation of Tess’s fancy ─ a cloud of moral hobgoblins by which she was terrified without reason. It was they that were out of harmony with the actual world, not she. … Feeling herself in antagonism she was quite in accord. She had been made to break an accepted social law, but no law known to the environment in which she fancied herself such an anomaly.’ |
