近来翻阅同学旧报纸，忽于2004年《南方周末》李雾文中见华莱士《战士之歌》，译笔精美可喜，不知是作者所译，还是转自他人。附之于下：

生何速兮死可期
汝命殒兮秋肃起

逝三日兮君未啼
此去无意招魂礼

神永绝兮谨奠祭
秋已深兮风亦息

风语咽兮天道弥
崇云依然健飞急



THE DEATH OF A SOLDIER

Life contracts and death is expected,
As in a season of autumn.
The soldier falls.

He does not become a three-days personage,
Imposing his separation,
Calling for pomp.

Death is absolute and without memorial,
As in a season of autumn,
When the wind stops,

When the wind stops and, over the heavens,
The clouds go, nevertheless,
In their direction.
