Karl Marx once said that we should rejoice that Byron died at 36 because if he would have become a reactionary, and that we should grieve that Shelley died at29 because if he had lived he would always have remained a revolutionary.

No. What did Karl Marx know about Byron and Shelley anyway. Its' not like he could have the opportunity to read Leslie Marchand's edition of Byron's letters and journals. Marxist theory in literary criticism is one thing, Marx's judgment on literature is quite another. The former I enjoy reading, the latter I usually dismiss.
